- Greetings, all...
-
- Once again I emerge from hibernation to ask a vastly outdated Amiga
- question.
-
- For handling Zip archives on my Amiga, I am using Zip 1.9 (Aug 26, 1992).
- The "Index" file for this particular Zip distribution mentions that the
- "wildcard selection feature... requires AmigaDOS 2.04," which agrees fully
- with my experience of wildcard selection NOT working under AmigaDOS 1.3.
-
- However, I _also_ cannot seem to get wildcard selection to work EVEN under
- AmigaDOS 2.04, which IS supposed to work. I would expect that a command of
- the form
-
- zip -9 dest c#?.txt
-
- would archive all files starting with "C" and ending with ".txt" into archive
- "dest.zip". Instead, I get the messages, "zip warning: name not matched:
- c#?.txt" and "zip error: nothing to do! (dest.zip)". I get exactly the SAME
- response if I say "what the hell" and use the syntax that works on OTHER
- platforms, namely
-
- zip -9 dest c*.txt
-
- -- so how is it done? How do I get Zip 1.9 on the Amiga to archive multiple
- files matching a wildcarded specification? It's been mystifying me for three
- years now.
-
- If it's not MY fault it isn't working, then is there another, newer version
- of Zip that WILL do "wildcard selection" properly? A version that will do
- it under AmigaDOS 1.3? A newer version that I "should" be using just because
- it IS newer? If so, where might I obtain it/them? I don't know any Aminet
- sites in the U.S. -- only one in the U.K. somewhere -- so please BE SPECIFIC
- in your replies... At risk of offending you, I'd also like to ask that you
- e-mail your reply even if you ALSO POST it, as I am not entirely successful
- at keeping up with this group. I'll gladly return the favor if you ever need
- to make a similar request in any group I DO keep up with... comp.os.vms, for
- example. Thanks in advance.
